Martin Scorsese has agreed to lead a documentary series on Christian saints for Fox Nation, the streaming service under Fox News Media.

“Martin Scorsese Presents: The Saints,” set to premiere in November, will feature Scorsese as host, narrator, and executive producer. The acclaimed director of films like “Taxi Driver” and “The Wolf of Wall Street” will be the driving force behind the series. Fox Nation will officially announce the show on Wednesday.

Since its launch in 2018 as a companion service to Fox News, Fox Nation has broadened its content to include entertainment and general-interest programs, aiming to become a conservative version of Netflix. The platform already offers shows with stars like Kevin Costner, Rob Lowe, and Dan Aykroyd.

The series, created by Matti Leshem, will depict the stories of eight saints, including Joan of Arc, John the Baptist, Mary Magdalene, Francis of Assisi, and Thomas Becket.

Scorsese commented, “I’ve lived with the stories of the saints for most of my life, thinking about their words and actions, imagining the worlds they inhabited, the choices they faced, the examples they set. These are stories of eight very different men and women, each living through vastly different periods of history and struggling to follow the way of love revealed to them by Jesus’ words in the gospels.”

In addition to narrating re-enactments, Scorsese will host discussions with experts on camera. The first four episodes will air on Nov. 16, with the remaining four releasing in May 2025. The series is directed by Elizabeth Chomko and written by Kent Jones.

Scorsese’s interest in Christianity is evident in his works, sometimes causing controversy among conservative audiences. His 1988 film, “The Last Temptation of Christ,” was criticized for its portrayal of Jesus. However, Scorsese continues to explore religious themes in his projects.

Rick Yorn, manager of Leonardo DiCaprio and a producer on several of Scorsese’s previous films, is one of the executive producers of “The Saints.” Lionsgate Alternative Television is producing the series.

Scorsese, who was nominated for best director at the recent Academy Awards for his film “Killers of the Flower Moon,” lost to Christopher Nolan. At 81 years old, Scorsese continues to be a prominent figure in the film industry.
